Item name: Standard “D” Syphon
Detail: Glass bottle covered in wire mesh with flat base.
Markings: ‘Sparklets Ltd makers London D’ on head. ‘Use one bulb only’ on cap. ‘Made in England’ & ‘Do not fill above red line’ on neck.
Base markings: 364 on example shown (this syphon was also issued with other 3-digit base markings. I do not know what these markings refer to, but guess they relate to the batch number, or factory where they were produced).
Produced: 1934-1955
Height: 340mm
Notes: The most common glass syphon, and is very popular with collectors. Distinguished from SCG/PDPC-WM by the flat base. Inlet valve has a cap attached by a chain. These are constantly demanding good sale prices, typically £30-£35, but as with all the syphons there are always bargains to be had!
